Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need an appointment to file my personal taxes?
Start with a free 15-minute call. After that, choose what's easiest: finish your return with us in person, or drop off your documents at our Brentwood office and we'll prepare your return. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 3β7 PM, and during tax season we are open from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM. We walk you through everything before filing.
What documents do I need to bring?
Bring your W-2s, 1099s, last year's tax return, Social Security numbers for yourself and dependents, and any other income or deduction documents. The more complete your documents, the faster and more accurate your return. We go over the most common things people forget to bring so we can finish your return faster.
What is an IRS Enrolled Agent and why does it matter?
An Enrolled Agent (EA) is a federally licensed tax professional certified by the IRS. Unlike seasonal preparers, EAs must pass a rigorous IRS exam and complete ongoing education. They are authorized to represent you before the IRS in audits, collections, and appeals.
Can you file taxes if I don't have a Social Security Number?
Yes. As IRS Certified Acceptance Agents, we can process ITIN applications and renewals on-site. There's no need to mail your passport to the IRS. You can file your taxes and apply for an ITIN at the same time.
Do you handle rental property and investment income?
Yes. We specialize in rental real estate reporting, including depreciation schedules and passive activity rules, as well as stock compensation (RSUs, ISOs, NSOs, and ESPPs), which are among the most frequently misreported items on personal returns.
How much does it cost to file my taxes?
Pricing is based on the complexity of your return and is quoted upfront. There is no charge for the initial review, so you will know the cost before we begin.
Do I need to come into the office?
Yes. You can drop off your documents at our Brentwood office or go through everything with us in person, but we ask every client to come in to finish their return and sign it. That way we can walk you through your return and answer your questions face to face before anything is filed. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 3β7 PM, and during tax season we are open from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM.
How long does it take?
Most returns are ready to review and send out as soon as we receive all your completed documents.
What if I'm late or haven't filed in a few years?
We help with extensions and prior-year returns. Call us at (925) 308-0040 and we'll lay out the steps.
How is my information protected?
We follow a written information security plan, and we never sell your information.
